A Diamond Education

Our goal is to empower you with the information you need to make the best possible diamond choices. We source and carefully inspect every diamond before accepting it. It’s key that diamonds are selected not just based on a grading specifications, but for stunning visual beauty as well. This is something only someone with years of experience and expertise is qualified to do. This service and client education sets us apart from a retail jewelry store and ensures our clients buy their perfect diamond.

The first STEP of DIAMOND education is knowing the “Diamond 4 C’s”. This Knowledge will give you a perspective of how subtle distinctions can have a huge effect on quality and price.

The Four C’s

Cut

While cut does include shape (round, heart, oval, emerald, marquise, pear), the 4C’s refer to a diamond's cut grade is really about how well a diamond's facets interact with light or its amount of sparkle. The consistency and balance of these can greatly affect how the stone captures light and reflects it back to the eye. When a diamond is cut with the proper proportions, light enters the diamond and is returned through the top of the diamond. If a diamond is cut too shallow, light will escape from the bottom of the stone. If it is cut too deep, light will escape out the sides.

We pride ourselves on choosing the perfect cut to complement the design of every piece we create.

Color

With the exception of fancy-colored diamonds, the most valuable are those with the least color. A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value.

JewelrySource only selects diamonds in the top color range D - I.

Clarity

Tiny surface blemishes or internal inclusions, even those seen only under magnification, can alter the brilliance of the diamond and thus affect its value.

JewelrySource only uses the top Clarity grades, flawless - SI1.

Carat Weight

Carat refers to a diamond’s weight. All else being equal, diamond price increases with diamond carat weight, because larger diamonds are rarer, they have a greater value per carat, so the price of a diamond rises exponentially to its size. Two diamonds of equal carat weight can have very different values (and prices) depending on three other factors of the diamond 4Cs.
